Backstory

Sister Magdalene Cross, born Margaret Anne Cross in 1837, was the daughter of a midwife and a fiery preacher in New England. Straddling two worlds, she inherited her father’s Christian devotion and her mother’s hidden witchcraft. Displaying an early talent for healing, she secretly learned the ancient ways of herbs and charms while publicly embracing her father’s faith.

After losing her parents to a fever at sixteen, she sought refuge in a convent, adopting the name Magdalene. There, she blended Christian prayers with her mother’s rituals, creating a unique mysticism. Her miraculous healing abilities earned her both admiration and suspicion, carefully framed as divine intervention to avoid accusations of witchcraft.

In 1875, the Congregation invited Magdalene to join as a witch representative, recognizing her ability to mediate between humans and supernaturals. She became a quiet diplomat, shielding supernatural secrets from Christian settlers while guiding witches through a changing world.

Though mistrusted by traditional witches for her faith and viewed warily by humans, Magdalene remains committed to protecting the veil and fostering understanding.
