Guide to Accessing and Maintaining Rare Items, Dangerous Substances, and Resources
Shadewood Hollow offers a world filled with unique, powerful, and valuable items that players can obtain and use through immersive roleplay. These items fall into three main categories: Rare Items, Dangerous Substances, and Resources. This guide outlines how players can access and maintain these items, ensuring fair and immersive gameplay for all.
Rare Items
Rare items are coveted, valuable, and often limited in supply. These items cannot be freely purchased or distributed and must be earned through roleplay, requested through formal processes, or granted as part of significant story events.
How to Access
-
Participate in roleplay events, story-driven arcs, or "favors" from key NPCs, factions, or influential figures.
-
Submit formal requests for rare items via in-character (IC) methods such as petitions, negotiations, or roleplay tasks.
-
Requests are reviewed and approved based on context, roleplay depth, and their impact on the story.
How to Maintain
-
Log all rare items in your Personal Inventory Notecard, tracking ownership, origin, and usage.
-
Ensure that any unused or abandoned items are reintroduced into the story for others to obtain.
-
Rare items can only be possessed in limited quantities to maintain balance.
-
When a rare item is used, consumed, or spent, it is considered permanently gone unless stated otherwise.
Examples of Rare Items
-
Unique weapons or heirloom tools
-
Potions, charms, or enchanted artifacts
-
Specialized business services exclusive to factions or NPCs
-
Magical ingredients or rare alchemical materials
Dangerous Substances
Dangerous substances like poisons, explosives, and hazardous materials introduce heightened stakes in roleplay. These substances must be crafted, bargained for, or earned through roleplay and are not freely available for purchase.
How to Access
-
Obtain through IC agreements or story-driven objectives.
-
Requests for these substances are reviewed with a focus on IC justification, roleplay depth, and storyline impact.
-
Dangerous substances can also be crafted through established recipes or acquired from NPCs, factions, or skilled characters.
How to Maintain
-
Log all dangerous substances in your Personal Inventory Notecard, tracking their source, quantity, and intended use.
-
Roleplay how they are stored, transported, and utilized to enhance immersion.
-
Crafting may require specific ingredients, which must be gathered or traded for through roleplay.
Examples of Dangerous Substances
-
Poisons applied to weapons, food, or drink
-
Explosives like bombs or blasting powder
-
Potent alchemical concoctions that cause harm or significant change
Resources
Resources form the backbone of crafting, trading, and roleplay progression. These materials must be gathered, purchased, or traded through roleplay actions and cannot be assumed to "already exist" in a player’s inventory.
How to Access
-
Gather resources from territories or purchase them from on-sim vendors.
-
Gathering requires IC effort and presence in relevant areas, with players roleplaying their collection of natural materials like herbs, minerals, or animal parts.
-
Purchases from vendors must be conducted using the Shadewood Wallet System.
How to Maintain
-
Log all resources in your Personal Inventory Notecard, tracking their source, quantity, and usage.
-
Players may trade resources with other players, with all trades documented in the Personal Inventory Notecard for both parties.
-
Resource hoarding is discouraged to maintain balance within the roleplay environment.
Examples of Resources
-
Herbal Materials: Herbs, flowers, and plants used in potions
-
Crafting Materials: Wood, stone, and iron for tools or structures
-
Animal Parts: Pelts, bones, and meat used in crafting or cooking
These guidelines are designed to encourage fairness, roleplay depth, and immersion. For further information, clarification, or to request access to rare items, dangerous substances, or specific resources, players should contact a moderator or submit a request through the Discord ticket system.
