Backstory

Malachai Kane, known as "The Ferryman," is a daemon, whose focus has become the boundary between life and death. Emerging in the late Bronze Age, he became a spectral figure in human folklore, guiding souls across the threshold of mortality. For centuries, his contracts have maintained balance between life and death.

By the 14th century, Malachai aligned with The Congregation, serving as a neutral arbiter to uphold balance when contract violations threatened the supernatural world's secrecy. Though not officially part of the council, his authority is absolute, and his rare appearances mostly demanded respect from all.

By the late 19th century, Malachai’s path led him to Shadewood Hollow, where industrial expansion disrupted sacred grounds, awakening restless spirits. Operating as a silent observer and occasional mediator, Malachai serves as both a warning and an enforcer, ensuring that neither humans nor supernaturals tamper with the fragile laws of life and death.
