Backstory

Jonathan Phelps, born in the late 17th century to a wealthy British merchant family, displayed ambition and a sharp mind from an early age. As a mortal, he excelled at reviving struggling businesses and capitalized on opportunities others missed. His ventures led him to the American colonies, where he expanded his influence through shipping, lumber, and trade. However, his success drew enemies, culminating in an ambush that left him near death.

Victoria Raines, a calculating vampire, saw potential in Jonathan's unrelenting drive and turned him, offering immortality to achieve his ambitions. Jonathan embraced his vampiric nature, using it as a tool to amass power and build a vast network of influence. By the early 19th century, he became a major figure in the supernatural community, investing in railroads, steel, and coal while discreetly supporting vampire enclaves and securing supernatural trade routes.

Jonathan’s prowess earned him a seat on the American Congregation as a vampire representative, where he champions progress and expansion. Though often clashing with traditionalists like Abigail Hawthorne, his business acumen and strategic foresight make him indispensable. In 1890, based in Charleston, West Virginia, he oversees mining operations and industrial enterprises, carefully navigating human politics while staying within The Covenant's bounds.

For Jonathan, the frontier represents opportunity and a proving ground for the strongest and most cunning. Relentless and pragmatic, he seeks to secure the future of vampirekind and cement his legacy, regardless of the cost.
