Backstory

Amos Green, born in 1851 in rural Kentucky, grew up as the son of a fire-and-brimstone preacher, Ezekiel Green. Steeped in scripture and frontier hardships, Amos displayed a natural gift for oratory, captivating listeners with his powerful sermons. After his father’s death in a raider attack, Amos took up his mission, wandering Appalachia as a compassionate but fiery preacher.

By his late twenties, Amos settled in Shadewood Hollow, founding the modest Shadewood Church. The town’s miners and struggling families found solace in his sermons, though Amos sensed a dark undercurrent in the region—ghostly tales, strange lights, and an unsettling presence. While dismissing these as superstition, he couldn't ignore the toll of the Monaghan Mining Company on the land and its people. His sermons subtly warned against greed and exploitation, avoiding direct criticism of Josiah Monaghan but hinting at the dangers of unchecked ambition.

Amos’s life changed with unsettling visions—flashes of disasters, spectral figures, and the town in flames. When some visions came true, he believed he was chosen to protect Shadewood from a greater evil. As labor unrest and supernatural tensions escalated, Amos struggled between calming the town and urging righteous rebellion.

By 1890, Reverend Amos Green stood as a beacon of hope for some and a figure of ominous warnings for others. Torn between faith and the inexplicable forces threatening Shadewood Hollow, he remained steadfast in his mission to protect his flock amid growing chaos.
